About Sturgis Memorial Gardens

Memorial Gardens was established in 1983 with formal dedication in 1985. The cemetery is located on the south side of E. Fawn River Road east of S. Nottawa Street. It was started as a low maintenance alternative to Oak Lawn Cemetery. A low maintenance cemetery has no headstones, only flush mounted markers are allowed. There have been 112 burials in Memorial Gardens since it opened.

Worked with us throughout the entire process and had a great attitude through it all. It ended up taking us 6 months to decide on a design for the stone, and not only were they patient, they also were very willing to accommodate any change we had even thought about. Thank you Shelley! You were so helpful to me in getting a headstone. It was a unique request for my great uncle who died as a baby with the influenza epidemic of 1918, he never got a marker. You helped me through all the decisions, some I had no clue like the lettering and shiny or mat finish.I can’t wait to see the finished product when it’s delivered. Thanks again Shelley!

Besides human gravestones and cemetary markers, this company also offers pet memorial stones, like the kind you'd put in a garden and/or next to a backyard burial site. What makes Black Monument Company stand out is that they actually do the etching of the words right there in-house vs. a couple other places I called in town (pet cemetaries like Noah's) where they have to send away for custom stones, which takes days or weeks and costs more money. I was very happy with Black Monument Co - the pet grave marker they designed is a perfect sweet way to honor the memory of my dear departed furry friend.
